Over the past three years, Construction North Group (CNG) has quietly but confidently expanded its capabilities in the UK construction sector by investing in a fully integrated in-house building services team. Offering mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) services directly to our clients, this strategic move has proven to be one of the most impactful decisions we’ve made not just for operational efficiency, but for the quality of delivery, client satisfaction, and long-term project success.
Led by Adam Griffin, an electrical engineer by trade and a highly skilled, technically astute operator, our building services division has grown into a trusted arm of our business. Adam’s leadership, combined with a growing team of engineers and strong supplier relationships, has enabled us to deliver complex installations with precision, speed, and control.
Why We Took MEP In-House
The decision to bring MEP services in-house wasn’t about turning our back on the supply chain. Far from it. We continue to work closely with a wide network of mechanical and electrical subcontractors and suppliers who play a vital role in our delivery model. But on certain projects particularly those requiring tight coordination, bespoke design, or accelerated timelines we saw an opportunity to offer clients a more controlled, integrated service.
By aligning our building services team with our core construction operations, we’ve been able to:
This model has allowed us to take greater ownership of the full project lifecycle, from early-stage design development through to final handover.
Recent Projects: Excellence in Action
Our building services team has been instrumental in delivering several high-profile and technically demanding projects. Here are just a few examples of our recent work:

A landmark installation in the heart of Leeds, the Electric Press project showcased our ability to deliver high-spec building services in a logistically challenging and complex install. On this project, our team took on full MEP design responsibility, working in close partnership with the client’s team including the architect and building services engineer to develop the design during an enabling phase. This collaborative approach allowed us to refine the technical strategy, align with heritage constraints, and ensure every element of the installation was coordinated to the highest standards. Thanks to Adam Griffin’s leadership and our integrated delivery model, we executed the install with precision and control, overcoming the challenges of a complex, city-centre site while maintaining full compliance and minimal disruption.

At Leeds Valley park, our team delivered a full MEP design and installation package, including warehouse lighting, security systems, and data infrastructure. The works also comprised the construction of a new mezzanine office, complete with integrated mechanical, electrical, and plumbing services. By taking on full design responsibility and working collaboratively with the client’s team including the architect and building services engineer we developed the scheme, ensuring every element was tailored to the operational and spatial needs of the facility. This approach allowed us to execute the installation to the highest standards, meeting tight deadlines and overcoming the challenges of a fast-paced, technically demanding environment.

At Appleton Academy, we recently completed the design and installation of 536 solar PV panels, helping the school significantly reduce its carbon footprint and energy costs. The project included a successful G99 application, the installation of a mansafe system, and a significant access scaffold to safely install the arrays . This was a technically demanding scheme, delivered in a live educational environment, and is a testament to our growing expertise in renewable technologies, our commitment to ESG principles, and our ability to manage complex installations with precision and care.

This feedback isn’t just encouraging it’s validating. It tells us that our decision to invest in in-house MEP was the right one, and that our clients value the control, consistency, and confidence it brings.
Supplier Relationships: The Backbone of Our Success
While we’ve brought delivery in-house, we’ve also built fantastic relationships with key suppliers across the mechanical and electrical spectrum. From HVAC systems to lighting, fire alarms to energy management solutions, our suppliers have been instrumental in helping us deliver high-quality outcomes.
These partnerships are built on trust, transparency, and shared standards. We don’t just buy products we collaborate on solutions. And that’s what makes the difference.
Looking Ahead: Growth, Innovation, and ESG
As we look to the future, our building services team will continue to play a central role in our growth strategy. We’re expanding our capabilities in:
We’re also investing in talent development, bringing in a new team of project managers, engineers and apprentices to support our pipeline and build a legacy of technical excellence.
Final Thoughts: A Model That Works
At Construction North Group, we believe in doing things properly. That means delivering projects that are not only built well but built smart. Our in-house building services team is a reflection of that philosophy. It’s not about cutting corners or replacing the supply chain it’s about enhancing control, improving quality, and delivering value.
We’re proud of what we’ve achieved so far, and even more excited about what’s to come.
